Margaret Aitken Women in Media

Founded in 2007, Margaret Aitken Communications is a boutique communication strategy and public relations firm located in Wilmington, Delaware.

As the firm’s principal member, Ms. Aitken has worked with local, national and international businesses and organizations, providing them with strategic communication counsel, crisis communication planning, messaging strategy and media intervention. Her client list ranges from Fortune 500 corporations to government entities and nonprofits organizations.

Prior to founding her own firm, for more than a decade, Ms. Aitken served as the spokesperson and press secretary for then United States Senator, now Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

In that capacity, she handled thousands of press inquiries and worked closely with a myriad of reporters, editors, producers and bookers. Along with a small press staff, she developed and implemented Senator Biden’s press and public relations strategies, advised him on both the merit and quality of press opportunities, and prepared briefing materials for interviews, television appearances and public events.

She has traveled extensively both nationally and internationally, orchestrating press availabilities throughout the United States, and in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

In addition, Ms. Aitken served as the Public Information Officer for the Delaware State Department of Education and the Press Secretary for the New Castle County Executive. Her experience on both the federal and state level has proven invaluable to clients seeking strategic assistance whether they are a multi-million dollar company or a new start-up. She has advised clients on matters ranging from crisis management communication to political policy and press strategy.

Ms. Aitken is a graduate of the University of Delaware and in the process of completing her Masters of Arts Degree in Strategic Communication and Media Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
